About

A laboratory medicine research lab at Kangwon National University College of Medicine, finding answers in the clinical laboratory through diagnostic hematology, transfusion medicine and molecular genetics. We also study laboratory automation and robot- and AI-based specimen management.

  • Diagnostic hematology
  • Transfusion medicine
  • Molecular genetics
  • Diagnostic immunology
  • Cancer diagnostics

Transfusion Medicine & Blood Bank Science

Transfusion medicine / blood bank

We work on red cell antigen and antibody identification, analysis of incompatible transfusion reaction cases, and evaluation of the safety and appropriate use of blood products. The goal is better test protocols that bear directly on clinical decisions.

  • Antibody identification
  • Hemovigilance
  • Blood utilization

Diagnostic Hematology

Diagnostic hematology

By interpreting peripheral blood and bone marrow morphology, flow cytometry and coagulation results together, we study diagnostic accuracy and standardized reporting for blood diseases. This includes validation of automated instruments and digital morphology.

  • Flow cytometry
  • Coagulation
  • Bone marrow morphology

Molecular Diagnostics

Molecular genetic diagnostics

For hematologic malignancies, infectious diseases and hereditary disorders, we evaluate molecular testing workflows such as NGS, digital PCR and fusion gene detection, along with clinically usable variant interpretation and reporting.

  • NGS
  • Hereditary disease panels
  • Variant interpretation

Diagnostic Immunology & Allergy

Diagnostic immunology / allergy

Using autoantibody patterns in autoimmune disease, multiplex allergen-specific IgE testing and cytokine profiles, we study clinical phenotype classification and the optimization of testing algorithms.

  • Autoantibody profiling
  • Specific IgE
  • Cytokines

Laboratory Quality & Diagnostic Stewardship

Laboratory quality / diagnostic stewardship

Through internal and external quality control data, consistency of result reporting and communication between clinicians and the laboratory, we design systems that reduce unnecessary testing and support decisions.

  • QC/QA
  • Reflex testing
  • Lab utilization
